3 semi-generative ambient songs made with 'elysium' - a harmonic table based midi sequencer for mac os x by matt mower ( twitter.com/sandbags ). (it's also what i used for the long tracks that all my albums end on)

UPDATE: acheron is a new generative midi sequencer based on elysium!

at some point an os update broke elysium, something about objective-c garbage collection no longer supported (not sure which one it was, i think somewhere between 10.9 and 10.13) so consider this a plea for someone out there with an interest in both generative music and objective-c programming to port this to a modern os - it's open source and someone already made a 64 bit version

anyway if this is you, or if you have an old mac laying around and want to try it here it is -

my current solution is emulating osx 10.6 in virtualbox, but it wasn't easy getting it up and running (and would be much harder on a non-mac)

anyway if you try to emulate 10.6 and get stuck at the uefi console during installation type "exit" then choose "boot manager", then "boot from file", choose the hfs partition, and then the file you want is "System\Library\CoreServices\boot.efi"

other software used includes
- ableton live 11 (the new probability features are great for this kind of thing)
- reaktor (particularly the user library synth 'effemm')
- thOnk_0+2 (a piece of even older mac software (os9, running in sheepshaver) that takes an audio file and does completely random granular synthesis stuff to it - shout out to nifflas for turning me on to this one) available here: www.macintoshrepository.org/1246-thonk_0-2

(note: thOnk requires os9 formatted big-endian mono aiff files - the only way i know of to make them with modern software is ffmpeg export in audacity... although i guess that means ffmpeg could also do it if you know your way around the command line)

i made the first 2 in the past few days, third one is from 2019 i think
